A book ready for its own online home.
Kevin Davis’s Cecil Wise is the first book in a developing children’s series. Its online home will bring together the character, the illustrations, the author, and the information families need to buy the book. Tim Bertram created the original artwork; Susan Walton is the current staff artist, continuing the visual world as the series develops.
Connecting the story to the sale.
Redstart is building an e-commerce platform around that author-reader relationship. The work connects book presentation and purchasing with marketing platforms and integrated search engine optimization, or SEO, so discovery and sales are part of the same application. The goal is for a reader to find a book through search or a campaign, learn about it, and buy directly through the author’s store.
Cecil Wise will be the first tenant.
The store is also the first use of a new multi-tenant application: shared software that will serve several authors, each with an individual storefront. Kevin’s book provides the first concrete publishing and selling needs around which Redstart is developing the platform. Other children’s book authors will be able to use that foundation to establish their own stores and sell their books online with ease.
From an individual practice to a shared product.
This follows the approach behind S. A. Walton Studio, Redstart’s first fine artist studio. The work of presenting and selling Susan Walton’s art led to Your Fine Art Studio. Cecil Wise brings a similar combination of commerce, marketing, and search tools to authors, with books and their readers at the center.
The author store is being built.
Cecil Wise’s public launch page introduces the project today. The connected store and the wider author platform are in development. The intended result is a working home for Kevin’s first book and the titles that follow, alongside a reusable application that gives other authors the same path from a finished manuscript to online book sales.
